Why all the efforts?
Malaria remains a critical issue globally, with no vaccine available, contributing to death, poverty, and economic stagnation, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa, including Uganda. The Uganda Ministry of Health reports over 150,000 annual deaths, primarily among young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and vulnerable populations such as refugees and the homeless. Rural communities face challenges due to a lack of malaria awareness and prevention knowledge. Despite governmental efforts, including insecticides, mosquito nets, and DDT spraying, malaria cases remain high. Free mosquito nets are often misused and only protect during sleep, while DDT poses severe health risks due to its chemical components. Consequently, effective, comprehensive, and sustainable solutions are urgently needed to address this ongoing crisis.
Our strategic target:
Mumuko’s innovations aim to fight and eradicate malaria in Uganda and beyond. The social business model, featuring body spray and roll-on products, targets a 50% reduction in malaria within the first five years. The focus is on vulnerable groups in both rural and urban areas, including children under five, pregnant women, the elderly, displaced people, refugees in camps, and school children, both boarding and day scholars.
